On a recent vacation Anne and I stopped at this museum. It is an absolutely amazing place. I could have easily spent two days here, but unfortunately could not!

I grew up in Kansas in the 50's and 60's, and Don Garlits was an IDOL of mine! Drag Racing was a big thing then and there. I also loved the Salt Cars and the Indy Cars and their famous drivers, but Drag Racing and Hot Rods were probably my greatest interest. I well remember when I was 16, in the summer of 1966, there was an exhibition race at Wichita International Raceway. Three "Top Fuel" cars were in town to put on a show. Each of the cars made three passes down the track. The sound was unlike anything I had ever imagined. You felt these cars as much or more than you heard them. I am not certain, but I believe the three cars were owned by; Don Garlits, Pete Robinson, and Tommy Ivo. It's been a long time ago, but that's what I remember.

Visiting this museum brought back many of those memories. If you are ever in the Ocala, Florida area this is a "MUST SEE" place. Some of the cars are recreated from original parts. Some are the actual cars. Many cars are from other racers and were donated to the museum. I only wish I had more time.
