AUGUST 11, 2007
Since last year I promoted this trip up
Pikes Peak. Unfortunately I only had three takers, besides myself, making four
total. Also unfortunately only two of us made it to the
top. It was a beautiful day. Just a bit warm at the bottom, but very cool and
comfortable at the top. George Stubbs (1946 MG-TC), from Denver and his lovely wife Judy met
us at our home in the Black Forest. We drove through Colorado Springs and
through Manitou Springs and met Gus Gresh (MGB) and Chris Dennett (TR6) at the Toll Gate for
the Pikes Peak Highway.
We plan to do this again next year and hope
there is more interest among other MG owners. Sometime between now and then I
plan to attempt to go to the top of Pikes Peak AND to the top of Mt. Evans in a
single day! Two 14ers in a TC in one day! Wish me luck!

Taken in our driveway getting ready to depart for the clouds.
I took this picture behind me without looking into the camera! Just held it up
and clicked the picture. No one is more surprised than me that I actually got a
shot of the guy and his wife (George and Judy Stubbs) who were following me.
At the bottom of the Pikes Peak Toll Road we picked up Gus Gresh in his Yellow
MGB and Chris Dennett in his TR6. They joined us for the adventure.
Anne took these shots of the three cars following us to the top.
The lake on the way up the hill.

A short break around 10,000 feet I think, where we discussed lunch. It was too
early so we headed on toward the top. Gus took the lead at this point since his
MGB was getting a bit hot following the two TC's at such a slow pace. Not too
long after this Gus turned back. His car was just getting too hot. Shortly after
that Chris also was forced to turn back. His TR6 lost power at altitude.
George and Judy Stubbs, still following us. I guess they didn't know any better!
Now this is the way to get HIGH!!!
Try as I might, I just could not loose that other TC that kept following me.
Onward and upward!
Take a look in my side mirror. George and Judy just didn't give up.
Another breathtaking view!
They are still back there!

At this point we are getting close to the top.
Look closely in the rear view mirror. Yep, that's George and Judy!
This was an interesting shot. Anne got a rather intense look on my face in the
rear view mirror. Note that the following four pictures are the same as this
one,....well, sort of.
I have a good friend named Steve Simmons in California who is really good with
digital pictures. These four pictures show what a talented person can do with a
digital picture. Thank you Steve, I like them all, but particularly the third
one with the sepia tone. These are really great.
Of course we made it to the top! Here are two pictures to prove it. Left to
Right: George Stubbs, Judy Stubbs, Anne Silvers, and Bud Silvers. The 1946 TC on
the left belongs to George and Judy. The 1949 TC on the right belongs to Bud and
Anne Silvers.
What goes up, must come down! And so we did, SLOWLY!
I am not sure if we were stopped here or not. Another wild shot I took over my
shoulder. Check out the following picture. Scotty beamed the Jeep up.
Here is another example of what can be done with a digital picture. Scotty must
have beamed the Jeep up. Actually I got this one from Gordon Bruce Lawson who is
a member of the Niagara British Car Club. Thank you Bruce.
Here are a couple of shots where I got George in my rear view mirror. His car
got dirtier than mine, but mind certainly got dirty. Guess what though! They
WASH!
Back to the pavement, still a long way to go down. About half way down there is
a brake check. They take the temperature of your brakes and if they are too hot,
you must wait for them too cool before proceeding down the hill. At this point
George and I had almost not used or brakes. Both cars brakes were completely
cool!
